Commissioned in 1987 by Canadian Living Magazine to design a quilt representative of the Canadian Arctic, which I called Arctic Reflections, I chose as my centrepiece the imaginative work of Inuit artist, Aoudla Pudlat, who gave permission for use of his ptarmigan. Learning of his tragic death in 2006 water-skipping his snowmobile on Baker Lake, Nunavut Territory, while I never met this wonderfully talented artist, this is my heartfelt tribute to Aoudla Pudlat. Descending into frigid Arctic waters of Baker Lake, Sedna, the Inuit Goddess of the Sea awaits his body below. Next, a reflection of his spirit ascending into the snowy atmosphere of the Eastern Arctic. His spirit and his art lives on. © 1987 and © 2018 Sandra Small Proudfoot, Mono, Ontario Canada in collaboration with Mary Light, Longarm quilter, Temeskaming Shores, Ontario, Canada
